On 16th September 2024, the celebration of the 53rd Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between China and Nigeria was held in grand style, marking a significant milestone in the longstanding partnership between the two nations. This auspicious occasion also coincided with two other historical celebrations—the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (1949–2024) and the 64th Anniversary of the Independence of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1960–2024). Organized by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, this high-profile event took place at the prestigious Oriental Hotel in Lagos.

The event was a fusion of cultural exchange, historical reflection, and forward-looking cooperation. Among the key highlights was the launch of the book titled Understanding Friendship and Cooperation: Starting a New Chapter of China-Nigeria Cooperation, which Efe Moses Shuaibu-Yahaya was one of the authors a distinguished scholar and a youth leader of cultural exchange between China and Nigeria.

Recognition of Excellence: The China-Nigeria Friendship Contribution Award

Efe Moses Shuaibu-Yahaya, the CEO of Efe Best Chinese Training School (EBCTS) and President of the Confucius Institute Alumni Association of Nigeria (CIAAN), was bestowed with the prestigious China-Nigeria Friendship Contribution Award during the ceremony. This honor not only underscored his remarkable contributions to promoting China-Nigeria relations but also highlighted his exceptional achievements as one of Nigeria’s outstanding scholars in Chinese language and culture.

With nearly nine years of academic and cultural immersion in China, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, Shuaibu-Yahaya has been an ardent advocate for fostering mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations. His elegant Chinese name, Wu Wenzhong, reflects his deep cultural integration and his enduring commitment to this cause.

The award recognized his leadership in promoting cultural exchange and people-to-people relations, particularly through his role as the President of CIAAN, a position he has held since July 2023. With the support of the Chinese Consulate in Lagos, Shuaibu-Yahaya has actively worked to strengthen ties between the Chinese and Nigerian communities, organizing numerous cultural initiatives aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation.

The event also marked the official launching of ” UNDERSTANDING FRIENDSHIP AND CO-OPERATION: starting a new Chapter of China- Nigeria Cooperation, which symbolizes the next phase of China-Nigeria cooperation. The book explores the evolution of diplomatic relations between the two nations and the potential for deepening partnerships in various sectors, including education, trade, and cultural exchange. The launch was met with great enthusiasm and serves as a reference point for future collaboration.
